You can get rid of mud by building floors, roads, etc. on top of it and then remove the construction, but some of the tiles will then get converted into soil. If you didn't intend to smooth and/or engrave the floor building a floor or paved road should work well, however.

The moody dwarf will grab the ghost, drag him to a workshop and butcher it.
