Each of the doors have a switch to let the system know if the doors are open or closed, if the light in the trunk area is on when driving, the switch has a problem. You might have a lamp thats about to go out, and its voltage resistance has changed causing the system to incorrectly detect a burned out light. Take off the cover. There's two sets of wires going to connectors on the latch mechanism. Remove the two connectors, and then see if the "hatch open" warning light goes out.
